Department of Physical Education

At SRCC, the endeavor of the Department of Physical Education is to achieve excellence in sports. Participation in different sports fosters leadership, teamwork, discipline, and confidence in the students.  The focus of the Department is on gender equity and diversity in sports, to ensure a friendly and fearless environment and to instill the values of fair play and sportsmanship in students.

The department offers opportunities and facilitates the participation of students in sports tournaments and championships at College and University level in numerous games like Aquatics, Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Ball Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Chess, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Handball, Judo, Korfball, Netball, Softball, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Taekwondo, Yoga, etc.

SRCC students have shown their mettle in games, like Badminton, Table Tennis, Basketball, Swimming, Chess, Tennis, Softball and Baseball, and bagged medals at national and international tournaments and championships.

Objectives of the Department of Physical Education

  • To facilitate students to maximize their sporting potential and find a game that they can participate and enjoy.
  • To develop sense of fair play, honest competition and sportsmanship.
  • To promote physical and mental well-being of students.
  • To develop self-esteem and self-confidence in students through positive sporting experiences.
  • To develop leadership skills and foster qualities of co-operation, tolerance, consideration, trust and responsibility through sporting activities and events.
  • To provide a release of students in order to refresh them for academic work.
  • To develop individual and teams in games with high skills so as to achieve excellence.

Sports Committee

The Sports Committee exists as an affiliate of the department of Physical Education and Sports. It is a students’ body comprising of sports secretaries and coordinators. The functions of the Committee are to organize sports tournaments at intra and inter college level, sports carnival, managing of sports publication and coordination among different sports teams.

It provides students an opportunity to build their organizational, leadership and team-building capabilities

Sports Infrastructure and Facilities at Shri Ram College of Commerce

The College has impressive state-of-the-art sports infrastructure comprising of multipurpose sports indoor stadium and a vast lush green sports field.

  • Multipurpose Sports Stadium

The multipurpose sports stadium is centrally air-conditioned to provide high level of comfort to the players and spectators. The central court is made of high-class maple-wood and designed for games like Badminton, Basket Ball, Wrestling and Judo amongst others.The multipurpose stadium also has rooms designated for sports such as Table Tennis.

The seating for 1200 persons is evenly distributed and designed for best viewing of the event from any position. For the players, spacious changing rooms, sauna bath and showers have been provided with hygienic public conveniences. Multi-gyms, sports injury & rehabilitation center and medical room are the supporting feature of the infrastructure.

The multipurpose stadium also houses the fitness center and physiotherapy center. Additionally, the multipurpose stadium also houses the Basic Health Care Unit of the College.

Fitness Center

The Fitness Center is located onthe top floor multipurpose hall in the sports complex. The Center cater to Free Weights Exercises, Bodyweight Exercises, Gym Ball Exercises /Swiss Ball Exercises, Resistance Band Exercises, Resistance Machine Exercises and Stretching exercises, and also hold classes for kickboxing, yoga and aerobics are some of the facilities available at the center.

The Fitness Center has two separate sections:

  • Weight training section: Treadmills, elliptical trainer, cycles etc.
  • Cardio section: Olympic weight lifting weights, exercises stations, Swiss balls etc

Physiotherapy Center

The Department provides Physiotherapy services to staff and students along with other basic medical facilities.

The Physiotherapy section has an Electrotherapy room and an Exercise therapy room. Electrotherapy Room is equipped with all the basic physiotherapy modalities (i.e. IFT u.s. TENS, Muscle Stimulator, SWD [short move diathermy], Traction Machine, wax bath therapy and hydro collator) meant for pain relief and relaxation.

Exercise Room has the basic exercise equipment (i.e. Shoulder Wheel, Wrist Exerciser, Ankle Exerciser, and Foot Exerciser) along with resistance band loops, Swiss Balls, Foam Rollers, Base Balls, Medicine Balls, Weigh Cuffs and newly placed RIP-60 trainer (suspension trainer) for rehabilitation and training purposes for student sports players.

The student atheletes of Shri Ram College of Commerce participate in the following sports:

    • Archery, Swimming, Athletics, Ball Badminton, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Chess, Cross-country, Diving, Football, Judo, Netball, Shooting, Softball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Volleyball, Taekwondo & Yoga.
  • Male Participation:
    • Archery, Swimming, Athletics, Ball Badminton, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Chess, Cross-country, Cricket, Football, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Netball, Shooting, Softball, Swimming, Squash Racket, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Volleyball & Taekwondo.
Rules and Regulations pertaining to Department of Physical Education and use of sport facilities

A. General Rules and Regulations

  • Only bonafide students and staff members of Shri Ram College of Commerce shall have right to access the facilities of sports complex.
  • The Sports complex will be available for the users from Monday to Saturday between 08:00 am to 5:00 pm. The complex shall remain closed on Sunday and official holidays, except for special occasions.
  • Members of the College Sports Team shall have preference of using the facilities of the sports complex over the other students and staff members.
  • Entry and exit of players as a group will not be allowed.
  • Visiting teams must be escorted by teacher or coach.
  • Spectators without due and proper authorization will not be allowed.
  • Visitors must maintain proper discipline and decorum in the Sports Complex.
  • Visitors should maintain proper cleanliness in the complex.
  • Use of alcoholic & tobacco products is strictly prohibited in the Sports Complex.
  • Dogs/pets are not allowed in any part of the complex. Violators shall be debarred from  any future entry and/or liable for a fine up to Rs. 1000/-.
  • Arms and ammunitions are prohibited in the complex.
  • Shooting (still or video) in the complex is not permitted without prior written approval of the Department.
  • Visitors causing damage to the property of the College will have to make damage good/replaced.
  • Vehicles in the Complex are not allowed, unless specifically permitted in writing by the Department. Parking should be only in the parking lot or designated place in the College Campus.
  • Publicity, marketing or selling without written permission is strictly prohibited. Disciplinary/penal action will be initiated against such person.
  • The Department reserves the rights to revoke/recall the use of facilities without any prior notice.

B. Rules pertaining to Multipurpose Hall

  • The hall shall remain functional from Monday to Saturday from 08.30 a.m. to 05.00 p.m., except during holidays.
  • Interested bonafide students and staff members shall have right of access of hall and its facilities, subject to the availability.
  • User members should carry their identity cards card while accessing the hall.
  • Before entry users/visitors should clean their footwears on the foot-mat at the entrance of the hall.
  • Only players and officials are allowed on the central court of the hall. Entry of spectators/students is restricted on the central court.
  • Shoes with cleats, studs or hard rough surface are prohibited inside the hall.
  • Soft drinks, snacks and other eatables or beverages are not permitted in the hall
  • Players should be in required sports-wear while practicing and playing game and bring their sports kit-bag.
  • Sports equipment issues by officials should be returned by the users within the stipulated time. The users shall be pable or fined in case any depberate damage if found with the sports equipment.
  • Carrying any equipment or property of the department outside the hall without proper issue or authorization shall be deemed an act of mischief and indiscippne. Any such act shall lead to discippnary action and/or fine on the violators.
  • Defacing, damaging or mishandpng any property or equipment in the hall shall be deemed an act of gross indiscipline. Violators shall be debarred from the entry and/or fined up to the value of equipment/machine/property.
  • Use of any sports equipment/machine shall be at the responsibipty and risk of the user. The department will not be responsible of any accident or injury suffered by the user/member while using the facipty or sports equipment/machine.
  • The individual shall be responsible for the safety of his/her personal belongings. The department will not be responsible for loss or damage to the personal property of the user/visitor.
  • Users should maintain proper decorum and discipline in the hall and should not involve in any teasing, argument or brawl with any person or official. Any act of indiscipline shall lead to disciplinary action or/and fine on the violators.

C. Rules and Regulations pertaining to Fitness Center

  • The fitness shall remain functional from Monday to Saturday from 08.30 a.m. to 05.00 p.m., except during hopdays.
  • Interested bonafide students and staff members should obtain the membership for using the facility of the fitness center from the Department.
  • User members should carry their membership card while avaipng the facipties of the fitness center.
  • User members should wear required dress while using fitness equipment/machine. They should bring their own accessories - towel, gloves, water bottle, etc.
  • Misuse of any fitness equipment/machine shall be deemed as an act of gross indiscipline. Any user found mishandling; defacing or damaging any equipment/machine will be debarred from any future use of the facilities of fitness center and shall be liable for a fine up to the value of equipment/machine.
  • Users should maintain perfect harmony and discipline in the center and should not involve in any gossip, teasing, or argument with other users or officials. Any act of indiscipline shall lead to termination of membership or/and fine.
  • When a fitness equipment/machine is occupied by a user, other users should wait for his/her turn. The user should not speak to the other user for his/her turn; rather he/she should ask the instructor for assistance.
  • Use of any fitness equipment/machine shall be at the responsibipty and risk of the user. The department will not be responsible of any accident or injury suffered by the user/member while using the facility or using any fitness equipment/machine.
  • The individual shall be responsible for the safety of his/her personal belongings. The department will not be responsible for loss or damage to the personal property of the user/visitor.
  • The department reserve right to terminate the membership of a user.
