SRCC Business Conclave
The SRCC Business Conclave, 2016, was held from February 03-05, 2016. It commenced with a Start-Up Panel Discussion moderated by Mr. Jaywardhan, with CEOs from some of the most successful and famous start-ups Nearbuy, FoodPanda, Fresh Fal-Sabzi, MapMyIndia and author of the book ‘Golden-Tap’ apprised the gathering of their experience in the world of startups and talked about their ideas and motivation to actually start something on their own.
This was followed by an interactive session between Mr. Rajdeep Sardesai, Indian news anchor and author, and Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Commerce and Industry. She was of this view that the Government does believe that some expenses have to be cut down and emphasized how Mr. Modi is currently working so hard to strengthen the country’s ties with the World and the fact that all his efforts would affect the country for better in the future.
Day 2 of SRCC Business Conclave saw Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, gracing the Shri Ram Memorial Oration at SRCC Business Conclave.
Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, then shared his iconic stories of success which came about by staying and facing problems faced.
Mr. D Shivakumar, CEO of Pepsico, India, talked about the role of Youth in India who have the power to reshape the country.
Mr. Derek’O’Brien, Member of Parliament, Quiz Master and Author, talked about the ideal attitude towards failure, which is to overcome it through courage, conviction and self confidence.
Ms. Medha Patkar, Social Activist and Founder of Narmada Bachao Andolan, talked of the life she leads as a Social Activist which according to her, is a duty towards society.
Day 3 of SRCC Business Conclave commenced with a keynote session by Mr. GM Rao, Founder and Group Chairman, GMR Group, who talked about his journey towards success and how his family stood by him throughout. He opined that talent alone will not take one far, in the long run, a responsible attitude matters.
Mr. Adi Godrej, Chairman of 118 years ‘young’ Godrej Group, maintained that good corporate governance is a journey, not a destination and that it is rewarding to those who do it right.
Mr. Rajat Sharma, Chairman & Editor-in-chief, INDIA TV, and an alumnus of Shri Ram College of Commerce, credited the College with the development of his personality. He believed that a positive attitude allowed him to overcome the tough childhood he had.
Mr. David Plouffe, Chief Advisor, Board of Directors, UBER; and Former Senior Advisor to the US President Barack Obama, talked about his journey with Uber and how he finds India to be a potentially successful market for Uber. He believes that the goal for us should be to invent, challenge, lead and inspire. He also narrated stories from the time when he was the Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama and their friendly differences of opinion.
Mr. Jayant Sinha, Hon’ble Minister of State for Finance, Government of India, shared his plans on creating an entirely frugal development model that would accelerate the process of wealth creation and is pro-poor.
Mr. Anurag Thakur, Member of Parliament and Secretary, BCCI talked about the future of sports in India and uniqueness and irreplaceability of the exposure one gets through sports.
He appreciated the indefatigable spirit of Yuvraj Singh, who beat Cancer and is ready to win the World Cup, and said that one should be inspired by such champions in life.
The second-last session of SRCC Business Conclave 2016, was a keynote address by Mr. Rishi Kapoor, eminent Bollywood actor. He spoke of the scale of business of Indian Cinema, and the challenges it faces from piracy. About the college’s cut-off marks, Mr. Kapoor jokingly exclaimed that the Kapoors will have to pool in their marks to approach 97-98%.
SRCC Business Conclave 2016 concluded with a session by Mr. Suresh Raina, Cricketer, Team India. He emphasized the level of bonding between the team members and how a player plays for the nation with full pride.
